Terms of Service
The terms that apply when you use the Chess Labs website or buy coaching.
Effective date: October 9, 2026
1. Services and Educational Purpose
Chess Labs LLC provides chess instruction, coaching sessions, training programs, educational content, and related services. Coaching is educational and developmental. Progress depends on practice, attendance, experience, and effort. We do not guarantee a particular chess rating, tournament result, or other outcome.
2. Eligibility and Minors
Adults may purchase services for themselves. A participant under 18 may participate only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian must provide accurate contact information, review the applicable policies, and be responsible for purchases made for the minor. We may request confirmation of authority to consent before a minor begins coaching.
3. Account and Contact Information
You agree to provide accurate, current information and to update it when needed. You are responsible for keeping account credentials confidential and for activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe an account or payment has been used without authorization.
4. Prices, Payments, and Third-Party Processors
Prices, session lengths, package details, and recurring billing terms will be shown before purchase. Prices are in U.S. dollars unless stated otherwise. Payments may be processed by third-party providers such as Stripe or PayPal; their terms and privacy policies also apply. When those providers process payment, Chess Labs LLC generally receives transaction status and limited payment information rather than full card numbers. You authorize the disclosed charge when you complete checkout. Applicable taxes or fees will be disclosed where required.
5. Subscriptions and Recurring Payments
If a service is sold on a recurring basis, checkout will disclose the price, billing frequency, and cancellation method before subscription. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges until cancellation. You may cancel using the method stated at checkout or by contacting william@chesslabsllc.com. Unless the offer states otherwise, cancellation stops future renewals and does not automatically refund a payment already processed.
6. Refunds, Cancellations, and Rescheduling
The refund and cancellation terms displayed at the time of purchase apply to that purchase. Unless a written offer states otherwise or applicable law requires a refund, completed purchases are non-refundable. Please request a coaching-session cancellation or reschedule at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time. A late cancellation or no-show may result in the session being counted as used. If Chess Labs LLC cancels a session, we will offer a reasonable reschedule or another remedy communicated to the client. Nothing in this policy limits non-waivable rights under applicable law.
7. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes
If you have a billing concern, contact william@chesslabsllc.com so we can try to resolve it promptly. You retain any dispute rights provided by your payment provider or applicable law. We may submit accurate records to a payment processor to respond to a dispute, including purchase details, disclosed policies, consent records, scheduling communications, and evidence of services delivered.
8. Acceptable Conduct and Termination
Participants must communicate respectfully and may not harass, threaten, discriminate against, disrupt sessions, misuse another person’s account, or unlawfully copy or distribute paid materials. We may suspend or end access for serious or repeated misconduct, safety concerns, nonpayment, fraud, or material breach of these Terms. Where appropriate, we will explain the reason and applicable refund or unused-service treatment. Termination does not remove rights that cannot legally be waived.
9. Intellectual Property
Unless stated otherwise, website content, lesson plans, worksheets, videos, course materials, branding, and other materials provided by Chess Labs LLC are owned by or licensed to Chess Labs LLC. Paying clients receive a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use purchased materials for their own chess learning. You may not copy, publish, sell, sublicense, publicly distribute, or share paid materials without written permission, except where law permits.
10. Online Sessions, Technology, and Recordings
Online sessions depend on internet connections and third-party platforms. Each participant is responsible for suitable equipment and a reasonably private environment. If a technical problem prevents a meaningful session, the parties will make reasonable efforts to reconnect or reschedule. We will not record a session containing a participant unless required consent has been obtained. Clients must not record or distribute sessions without prior written permission and any consent required by law.
11. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, the website and services are provided on an “as available” basis, without warranties not expressly stated in writing. Chess Labs LLC does not promise uninterrupted access or specific competitive, educational, or personal outcomes. To the extent permitted by law, Chess Labs LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits mandatory consumer rights.
12. Changes to Services or Terms
We may update services or these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a revised effective date. Changes apply prospectively; material changes to a paid or recurring arrangement will be communicated where required by law.
13. Governing Law and Contact
These Terms are governed by Connecticut law, without displacing mandatory consumer-protection law that applies. Disputes will be handled in a court with proper jurisdiction, subject to applicable law.
